Barcelona's Lautaro Martinez transfer talks on hold as they look to swap three stars
Barcelona's move to sign Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez is currently on hold, because Barca don't want to pay the Argentine's release clause of £97.5million. Barcelona are, according to Sky Sports' Gianluca Di Marzio, ready to offer up three players in exchange.
Barca are still keen on signing Martinez this summer, but will refuse to break the bank for the striker.Martinez has a release clause, meaning his transfer could be relatively straight-forward - but the release clause is too high for the Catalans.Barca have been after Martinez for some time, as the 22-year-old is viewed as the ideal long-term replacement for Luis Suarez. But despite the striker apparently being determined to move to the Nou Camp, Inter are reluctant to sell below his release clause.JUST IN: Newcastle subject of new £350m bid brokered by convicted fraudster
That leaves the La Liga leaders in a difficult spot, with club president Josep Bartomeu recently admitting the Blaugrana will spend less this summer and look to exchange players instead. It seems that is a tactic they will employ regarding Martinez, too, with Barca set to offer up three players in exchange.Di Marzio revealed to Sky Sports' Transfer Centre that he understood Barca had offered up Nelson Semedo, Junior Firpo and Arturo Vidal as well as cash in an attempt to sidestep the release clause fee. However, he admitted that a deal is yet to be reached, and that Inter are currently pondering over a deal.DON’T MISSTransfer news LIVE: Man Utd agreement expected, Liverpool open £70m talks [BLOG]Liverpool delay Anfield expansion due to coronavirus [NEWS]Everton make James Rodriguez transfer offer as Toffees seek Real Madrid deal [GOSSIP]
One player who had been discussed, Antoine Griezmann, will not be included due to his high wages. The French striker only joined Barca last summer and is one of the club's highest-paid players, and Inter are reluctant to want to fork out for his salary.Di Marzio explained: "He [Martinez] has an exit clause, but Barcelona doesn't want to pay that amount in cash."So they are talking to find an agreement, but that still hasn't been found.
"The deal would involve a part being cash and another part being players, like Nelson Semedo, Junior Firpo and Arturo Vidal."Not Antoine Griezmann because he has a very, very high salary."The talks are currently on hold and Barcelona will decide in the next days whether they come back with a deal and find a solution."Inter and Barcelona are talking, not every day, but over the last few weeks."
