West Ham fear winger Andriy Yarmolenko could be out for six months with a ruptured achilles tendon.

And that is the second injury blow to hit the Hammers in a week after midfielder Jack Wilshere suffered a setback in his recovery from ankle surgery. Yarmolenko, 28, is the more serious case and West Ham will learn the full extent of his problem after scans today.

The Ukrainian — signed in the summer for £18million from Borussia Dortmund — was taken off on a cart during the 1-0 home defeat by Tottenham on Saturday.

The indications are that it is a similar injury to the one which kept Arsenal centre back Laurent Koscielny out of the World Cup.

The former France defender was sidelined in May and has only just returned to training. He is unlikely to be considered for a first-team return until the middle of next month.

Wilshere needs a jab in his ankle before considering a comeback.

The former Arsenal player’s recovery has been delayed by two weeks, ruling him out of the Carabao Cup tie with Tottenham in nine days’ time.
