Gavin and Stacey Christmas special 2019: One character won't return for new episode

Writers James Corden and Ruth Jones have teamed up again to bring back the hugely popular BBC sitcom for one special episode.However, when it does hit screens once more, Sheridan Smith won’t be a part of it.Sheridan played James Corden’s character Smithy’s sister, Rudi.Although not part of the core cast, Rudi made several appearances throughout the series.

Sheridan spoke to Zoe Ball on her Radio 2 Breakfast Show where she divulged that she wouldn’t return."I wish. No, I'm not going to be in it. I don't think, anyway,” Sheridan explained.She went on to add: "Like everyone, I can't wait to watch the Christmas Special. I'm so proud to be have been a part of something so special."James made the big announcement last month in a post to Twitter.He posted a photo of the front page of the script where he said he and Ruth had been keeping quiet about it for some time."Ruth Jones and I have been keeping this secret for a while... We're excited to share it with you.

“See you on Christmas Day @BBCOne #GavinandStacey,” he wrote.Mick Shipman star Larry Lamb recently opened up about the exciting news when he appeared on This Morning.Speaking to hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, he revealed that he shed a tear when he read the script.He told them: “It’s amazing what Ruth [Jones] and James have done.“I finally read the script and the first little sequence, I found myself crying.

“It felt like running into somebody who’s been a major part of your life.“It was so poignant and I was immediately taking into the feeling of the whole thing. It just sort of took me along.”While most of the cast are expected to return, one iconic star of the show sadly won’t be there.Margaret John, who played the West’s elderly neighbour Doris, died in 2011 at the age of 84.The Gavin and Stacey Christmas special will air on BBC One later this year.
