Florence Pugh is proving to be British cinema's hottest new talent as she gears up for a brand new role in the BBC adaption of The Little Drummer Girl.

The 22-year-old actress, who found fame in drama Lady Macbeth, will star in the six-part thriller created by the same people behind The Night Manager.

What films has she been in?

Having starred in plays as a child, Florence bagged her first film role aged just 17 in mystery drama The Falling.

Florence plays the promiscuous Abbie alongside Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams.

The film's director, Carol Morley, said her audition for the role went so well that it was "like a young Kate Winslet walking into the room."

In 2017, she bagged her breakout role in indie flick Lady Macbeth - not based on the Shakespeare classic - as a young bride trapped in a loveless marriage with an older man.

Building on her already impressive portfolio, Florence has also starred in action thriller The Commuter opposite Liam Neeson.

Next up, the actress will be working with Dwayne Johnson on his wrestling film Fighting with My Family, due for release in March 2019.

What character does she play in Little Drummer Girl?

Set in the 1970s against a backdrop of sun, sex and spies, Florence plays Charlie, an actress who meets the mysterious Becker, played by Swede actor Alexander Skarsgard, whilst on holiday in Greece.

She quickly finds herself in too deep and becomes enthralled in a complex plot masterminded by an Israeli spymaster.

The show's director, Chan-wook Pak, reportedly told TV bosses that Florence had to have the part.

Executive producer Simon Cornwell said: "He told us, 'But you won't have heard of her.'

"And we were absolutely delighted to say that not only did we know Florence Pugh, we thought she was absolutely phenomenal and ideal to play Charlie."

After the Night Manager saw heartthrob Tom Hiddleston bare his bum to the world, Florence revealed that bosses decided to tone down the nudity on The Little Drummer Girl to appease American audiences.

She said: "America is quite scared of bums. And nipples.

"We had to make sure there were no bums and nipples out. I don't know why. Such strange people.

"My parents were very cool and made sure we watched lots of European films when we grew up, so nudity has never been a problem for me, as long as it's done beautifully."

Yes - she bagged the Evening Standard award for Most Promising Newcomer and the Best Actress gong at the British Independent Film Awards.

She was also nominated for a BAFTA for her role in Lady Macbeth.
