Leeds United sold Roofe to Belgian side Anderlecht for a fee believed to be around €7million (£6.4m) on Tuesday. The 26-year-old was an important player for the Whites last season as he scored 15 goals for boss Marcelo Bielsa, as the side finished third in the league and reached the Championship play-offs where they were knocked out in the semi-finals by Derby.Anderlecht, who are managed by former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany, have given Roofe a three-year deal. After the transfer was announced Roofe took to social media to thank the Leeds fans for their support during his time at Elland Road and ended his message with a nod to the clubs slogan ‘Marching on Together’.

“Thank you Leeds United for an incredible three years,” Roofe posted on Instagram.“The support I’ve got from the fans since day one has been unbelievable.“I have absolutely no doubt that you will be back in the Premier League where you have always belonged very soon.“It’s what you all deserve. Despite having some unfortunate injuries, I always gave my all for the shirt, and Leeds will always have a place in my heart #MOT”

Roofe joined Leeds from Oxford United for £3m in 2016 and went on to score 32 goals in 122 games for the club.Oxford and West Brom, his first club, are expected to benefit from the sale of the striker to Anderlecht, with the U’s having reportedly agreed a 15 per-cent sell-on clause when the player joined the Yorkshire club and the Baggies are due 40 per-cent of any sell of clause Oxford receive.Leeds issued a statement following the announcement of the transfer, which said: “We thank Kemar for his efforts whilst at the club and wish him all the best for the future.”While Anderlecht Sports Director Michael Verschueren said: “We were looking for an attacker like Kemar for quite a while now. He's a true goal-getter who will be a great asset to our team."Leeds won their opening game of the season against Bristol City 3-1 and after the game Bielsa was asked about Roofe’s departure - before his transfer to Anderlecht had been announced - he said: “I can't be happy if Roofe leaves.

"If I tell you this when he scored 15 goals last season, I would be stupid."“We have to adapt if it finally happens."Leeds could replace Roofe with Arsenal youngster Eddie Nketiah on a season-long loan, with the Whites reportedly ready to offer the 20-year-old a prominent role in the squad.Bielsa has also been heavily linked with making a move for Liverpool winger Ryan Kent.Kent impressed while out on loan at Rangers last season, but the Reds are only considering a permanent move for the 22-year-old this summer, and are reportedly willing to let last season’s PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year leave, if a club meets their £10m valuation.
