Stella McCartney has come under fire for advertising her brand’s coat on a now deleted social media post after Meghan Markle wore the item to a Remembrance Sunday service. Many users claimed that it was disrespectful for the designer to use the sombre occasion the Duchess of Sussex attended to plug a product.

The belted wool Stella McCartney coat goes for £1,545 and Meghan paired the elegant piece with a wide brimmed hat on yesterday at the Cenotaph. While the Duchess of Sussex did indeed look elegant, many Instagram users have claimed it is not appropriate for Stella’s brand to promote the item in connection with Remembrance Sunday. The post showed a snap of Meghan wearing the item along with the caption: “So honoured to have HRH Duchess of Sussex in our Autumn ’19 coat at Remembrance Day service. x Stella.”One of Stella’s some 6.2 million followers hit out with: “Are you really doing a #AD on a day that’s all about remembering the dead? How embarrassing.”READ MORE: Why was Meghan Markle standing alone on Remembrance Sunday?

Another disgruntled user wrote: “Is this all she’s there for? Merching?? Not the place for cheap promotions.”A third user simply wrote: “Yeah I wouldn’t have posted this.”And a fourth claimed: “Leave it to a McCartney to always see the money. The coat looked awful on her.”And a fifth user argued: “This post is gross. It’s a day about sacrifice and loss not a fashion show.

“The coat also looked like something from next – and the way she tied the belt was extremely unroyal.”A further user wrote: “Bad taste Stella! Advertising a coat on such a day and ceremony very bad taste.”Stella’s previous Instagram post directly paid tribute to Remembrance Day.The post featured a video of a poppy field, along with the caption: “Remembering the ones that sacrificed to give us freedom x Stella.”DON'T MISS...How Piers Morgan's wife Celia Walden took comical revenge on the GMB host [PICTURES]Ian Wright slams Harry Redknapp's I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! advice [INTERVIEW]Matt Baker reveals personal struggles in rare confession [VIDEO]
