The final series of Suits is nearing its end with just two episodes remaining in the long-standing legal show. Running for nine seasons on USA Network and Netflix, the show has been a big hit over the years. However, as fans prepare to say goodbye to the beloved characters, Express.co.uk takes a look back at some of the decisions that almost changed the whole series.1. The show was originally set on Wall Street

In showrunner Aaron Korsh’s original pitch for the television show, it was not set in a legal firm at all.He revealed to The Hollywood Reporter back in 2011 that he had originally based the script of his own experience of working on Wall Street.Korsh told the publication: “It was interesting because when it’s Wall Street, he [Mike] was only faking going to Harvard, he wasn’t faking a law degree.“To work on Wall Street, to be a mathematical genius, there is no degree you need to have whereas to practice [law], you need to pass the bar.”Before it went into production, the team decided to change the premise to the one fans now know and love.READ MORE: Suits season 9: Will Harvey and Samantha turn on Mike?2. Meghan Markle almost wasn’t cast

Suits actor and now Royal Family member, Meghan Markle was head-to-head with another actor for the role of Rachel Zane.Former co-president of the USA Network Jeff Wachtel told The Hollywood Reporter in 2017 that she was up against another actor named Kim Shaw for the role.He told the publication: “[Shaw] was a little bit more traditional blond girl next door; [the decision] was a tough one because they were both really good.”However, it was the Duchess of Sussex's chemistry with Patrick J Adams as Mike Ross that eventually won her the role.Wachtel added: “We needed somebody who had a real authority to shut him down and still be the coolest thing around. And they had it right away. It was a lot of fun.”READ MORE: Suits season 9 cast: Who plays Esther Edelstein? Who is Amy Acker? 3. Jessica was originally a male character

Jessica Pearson (played by Gina Torres) was a fan-favourite of the television series and has even gone on to land herself a spin-off series. However, it has been revealed that she was originally supposed to be a male character in the legal drama. She told the Metro back in 2014: “Jessica was conceived as a man – but here I am, a black woman in a world of white men.“The strength of her character is that, in Suits, we never play on that. Her drive and her ambition has nothing to do with her gender or cultural background. She has to be taken on her own terms.”READ MORE: Suits season 9: What is the backstory of Harvey's duck painting?4. The series originally had a different title

Jessica was almost killed off

Not only was Jessica originally conceived as a male character, fans almost said goodbye to her for good when she left in season seven.Aaron Korsh told The Hollywood Reporter: “In my mind, Jessica was going to make this decision to go off into the sunset with Jeff Malone (DB Woodside).“Father Larry Marsden (Colin Glazer), who was a little bit crazy and accosted Rachel and got broken on the stand, was going to bring a gun and go nuts and kill her.“I didn’t think we were going to see it; we were going to hear about it. It was going to shatter everyone and we were going to do a two-year time jump afterwards.”Thankfully the network didn’t go for it and fans can now see more of the character in Pearson.Suits season 9 airs Wednesdays on USA Network and Fridays on Netflix.
